H3 & H4 Snippets Now Available As A Seperate Download

When the H3 theme was released it came with a set of snippets that really helped to make things easier for the user. Then when we released the H4 theme we meant to include the snippet for H3 but somehow we forgot to add them to the download. This was quickly pointed out to us and corrected, however I am still getting e-mail requests for the snippets so I have decided to add them to the website as a separate download.

The snippets that come in this download include:

  • Right Sidebar Content - This snippets will make it a lot easier for you to add content to the right sidebars in either of the H3 or H4 themes
  • Sidebar Box - This snippet will create a neat and useful box in your sidebar. You can use this to have certain content be set apart from other content
  • Box of Links - This snippet will create a sidebar box with a list of links. You can edit the snippet to include the links that you want.

You can download the snippets by visiting our "Snippets" page or by clicking the button below:

After you download the file you will need to unzip the file and then double click on the snippets to install into the RapidWeaver snippet library. Then you MUST completely close out of and restart RapidWeaver before the snippets can be used.

Headliner 3 ... Reborn!

H3
Finally, we have released the all new and much improved Headliner 3 theme for RapidWeaver. When the H3 theme was first released 2 years ago it was the only theme of its kind in that it allowed you to insert content into 3 columns. However, as awesome as the H3 theme was it did have its shortcomings and users had to be very creative for H3 to reach its full potential. In this version of H3 we wanted to make things much easier for the end user and also to provide much more flexibility. We feel that the result will keep the Headliner 3 theme at the head of the class for pretty good while.

Briefly the Headliner 3 theme includes:

  • 2 popular width options for content driven sites
  • 5 EC Containers
  • 5 video tutorials to help you become more familiar with H3
  • 4 custom snippets built specifically for H3
  • All of the colour picker options that you have come to expect from RWT
  • "Boxes" (A custom snippet that creates the "box" for you ... all you have to do is add your content)
  • Please take a few minutes to navigate through the DEMO site by clicking on the link below.

Headliner 3 Theme Update: (3-19-09)

Ok folks, the Headliner 3 theme, otherwise known as H3, is all packaged up and will be ready to go in a matter of hours. I am just running the servers through some final paces. You will want to check back here in a couple of hours for an update.

Headliner 3 Update:

Back in late 2007 we released the Headliner 3 theme that was the only one of its kind for RapidWeaver. After nearly 18 months it is still the only theme of its kind that lets the user direct content to a left and right sidebar. Admittedly, the solution that we came up with was not the most ideal solution but it did offer RapidWeaver users something that they simply could not do with other themes.

With the introduction of Extra Content in late 2008 the H3 theme was a perfect candidate to be update or re-written to take advantage of all the EC offers. So let me give you a rundown on how things are progressing.

We have actually finished all of the markup and around 95% of the css and I have to tell you that this is going to be a phenomenal update. So far everything validates at W3C and works in all of the major browsers including IE6 & IE7. This update will include 2 very popular widths (960 px and 1080 px). You will be able to have full content in either the left or right sidebar. You will also be able to have the sub-navigation in either the left or right sidebar.

Some of the options that were included in the original H3 theme have been removed due to "popular request" ... namely the Google Ads box and the Date box. However, I have included and EC container underneath the top level navigation so you will be able to use this EC container for Google Ads if you wish.
Some other settings have also been removed simply because they were not necessary in the way that we re-wrote the theme.

The H3 theme will have a slightly different naming scheme so that it will not overwrite your current copy of H3. I felt that this was important as many of you are using the H3 theme on really large sites and I did not want to overwrite any settings that you may have set up.

As I mentioned earlier we still have a little more testing to be done before we make this publicly available but this theme will be a FREE update to all who have purchased the theme in the past.

What's Been Going On At RWT?

Since last August (2008) things have been unbelievably busy ... incredibly busy ... so busy that at times it is hard to keep things in somewhat of an order. We have been working on new themes, updates to old themes, plugins, applications, an occasional supportcast, design work, and a number of things that I can't talk about yet. However, I want to let you know about some of the things we are working on.

Headliner 3 Theme Re-Write
Since it's introduction nearly two years ago the Headliner 3 theme has been one of the top sellers of the RWT theme library. The reason for this is because it allow you to do what only a couple of RapidWeaver themes will do and that is to allow for split or dual sidebars. We originally created this theme using some crafty re-direction of the "h3, 4, 5, and 6" tags. While this method worked just fine it is not the optimum way to achieve this effect but because of the limitation of RapidWeaver this was the only way that made sense to us.

However, late last year (2008) an awesome new feature was created by a handful of 3rd party theme developers (myself included) that would allow the end user to enter content into areas that were not before possible. This new feature was dubbed "Extra Content".
The Headliner 3 theme is in the process of being re-written to make use of "Extra Content" instead of all those "H tags". I will admit that we have been a slow in getting this out to everyone but there is quite a lot of the theme that we have had to trash and re-write. It is still an active project and shaping up nicely.

New Site Design
If you have been following the RWT website over the last several years you know that we like to change site designs every few months. Well, its that time again ... we will soon be unveiling a brand new site design.

New Themes
We do have 2 brand new themes that will be made available within a couple of weeks.

Plugins
There is an update to the Partitions plugin in the works. I don't want to reveal to much about what is in this update we are wanting to create a page style (plugin) that will become your default page style for RapidWeaver. (Hint: It does have something to do with Extra Content)

Application Develoment
Most of you know that we are also the developers of Webify (http://www.mudbugsoftware.com). We are working on what needs to be corrected and added or changed for a Webify 2 release, although we do not have any dates set as of yet.

There is another application that is in early development ... by that I mean, still in my head .... that I am looking to get started by the end of the summer.

Well, there you have it .... a little sneak peak of some of the things going on at RWT these days.
